MySpace and Quick Links

Remember our MySpace account? You know, the one we hardly ever did anything with? Well, that is gone. Dusted. Pushed off. In its place has risen a new account which is in every way better than the previous one. There we will be posting news exclusive to CC as well as exclusive CC images. It'll be a little home away from home. So, if you're on MySpace please head over to the new ChronicleChamber account HERE and befriend us.. We'd love to have you.

******

You may notice some new little images above the CHRONICLE CHAMBER EXTENDED links to the right there. These are quick links to various parts of the site; our RSS feed, e-mail contact and our new MySpace respectively. So rather than looking through all  the various text and icon lists to find the right link you only need to have a quick glance.

I've created quicklinks for these as I feel they are the three aspects of the site people will want quick access to most, but if you have any suggestions for other parts of the site you feel should receive a quicklink please let us know.

Cheers.

Captain Toy Reviews Castaway Phantom

"These figures are destined for collectors, and Cast-A-Way knows that, so they developed their own collector friendly packages. The plastic bubble opens easily, and everything can be removed without damage. You can pop him right back in, easy cheesy lemon squeezey."

Mandrake Movie Not Based On Comic Strip

Hayden Christensen to play Mandrake the Magician

You'd be forgiven for thinking there could not be a more exciting time for the potential of Lee Falk characters appearing on the screen, with both a new Phantom movie and TV-series headed our way. Well, you were very wrong, as actor Hayden Christensen, best known for starring as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" and "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith", plus his role in the recent Doug Liman-directed sci-fi thriller "Jumper", has seemingly been cast as Mandrake in a new movie of the same name, according to the website of production company Omega Entertainment.

Djimon Honsou, perhaps best known for his fine performances in films such as "Gladiator" and "Blood Diamond", has also been added to the cast in an unknown role. However, it is easy to guess that he is likely playing Lothar, Mandrake's faithful friend and partner in crimefighting. Mimi Leder ("The Peacemaker", "Deep Impact") is listed as directing.

Longtime fans of the character may remember actor Jonathan Rhys-Meyers was originally cast as Mandrake in this project, when the film was still supposed to be directed by Chuck Russell. What caused the two to depart from the project is unknown.

21st Century PHANTOM

Mania.com talked exclusively with Charles Knauf about his work on the new show.

"It was a story by Falk called 'The Crime School.' I know a lot of fans may give me flack for it, but in going back to check out the mythos it really was a tight little story, way ahead of its time and a lot of fun to read," Knauf said. "Plus I totally dug the artwork! Classic stuff!"

Of course, brining a character with that much history to a modern audience is no easy task. The new storyline will be split between the hero's Bengalia base, including the famous Skull Cave, and present-day New York City."

Meet Up 2009 - LFMBEC Dinner

The Lee Falk Memorial Bengalla Explorers Club has planed a dinner after the SupaNova con the night of the CC Meet Up. While the LFMBEC isn't connected to CC in anyway any of you attending our Meet Up, SupaNova or are in Sydney that night are welcome to go. The detials of the dinner are as follows;

On Parramatta Road, just opposite the University of Sydney and down the road from Royal Prince Alfred Hospital sit two icons of Sydney.

One is Stiletto … and Bronwyn has told me that if I’m ever caught there I can stay … but she keeps the houses, the cars, the dog, the frequent flyer points and the four bikes.

The other is the home of custom motorcycles, where Billy Joel and Orlando Bloom get theirs, the renowned Deus Ex Machina.

Attached to this showroom (which in itself should be a major tourist attraction) is the Deus Café. As a venue for our 21st Dinner and one worthy of our Guest Speaker, Watchmen’s Dave Gibbons, it equals the splendid venue we had for Sy Barry. But it is quite different. It’s bigger, it’s spacious, it’s a place where Superheroes would blend in just nicely. Photos below.

And the food is terrific.

As you can tell, I’m unusually excited about this Dinner.

So here are the details.

VENUE: Deus Café, 98 Parramatta Road, Camperdown (corner Lyons Road opp. Missenden Road).

TIME: Saturday 27th June at 7:00 pm for Phantom Cocktails and 7:45 start for Dinner.

COST: $120 pp includes a magnificent three course meal AND all wine, beer and soft drink.

PAYMENT: 1. By Net transfer to BSB 012401 Ac/No 3678626 Account in the name of R L FRY, ANZ (Strathfield branch).

2. By Direct bank deposit to ANZ (Strathfield branch) Account in the name of R L FRY, BSB 012401 Ac/No 3678626
