Dave Gibbons Art

As mentioned previously, Watchment artist Dave Gibbons drew three original pieces which where up for auction at the recent LFMBEC 21st dinner. Each of the images raised between $1500 and $2500, and you're about to see why as one of the phans who attened the dinner, Chris, snapped some shots of the images. They certanly are beautiful!

Phantom biography released in Brazil

Opera Graphica Editora, the Brazilian publisher that has published Phantom comics sporadically since 2001, is going out of business. But not until they have released what is possibly their most ambitious project: a 144-page, giantsized, hardcover "biography" of the Phantom strip!

The book is entitled Fantasma: Biografia Oficial do Primeiro Herói Fantasiado dos Quadrinhos and has been in the works since 2005. It was originally intended for release in 2006, when the Phantom strip celebrated its 70th anniversary, but the project expanded and required more time.

The book is written by Marco Aurélio Lucchetti with assist by Franco de Rosa, and details the history of the Phantom comic strip, interviews with creators (including creators of the almost unknown Brazilian Phantom stories produced in the 1980s), and over 1000 images, including 818 covers of Brazilian Phantom comics!

The book is in the portuguese language, but it would definetely worth checking out for fans that cannot read the actual text. The book can be purchased online here:

Article: The Ghost Who Walks to the Screen

The Phantom has a rich history when it comes to being adapted into other forms of media, though sadly not as diverse and consistent as one might wish. The character has never had the constant popularity of many of the figures he inspired outside of comics, and his appearances on film and TV have been sporadical. With the upcoming movie The Phantom: Legacy (which looks like it could be the best non-comics presentation of the Man Who Cannot Die this far) and the SyFy television series The Phantom (which looks, to be honest, appalingly bad) the time is right to look back at what we have seen of the Phantom’s adventures on the screen so far.

Movie update and new Phantom film music

Moviehole.net recently had a chat with screenwriter Tim Boyle to hear how the new movie The Phantom Legacy is shaping up.

"The Phantom is still at scripting stage’’, Boyle says. ‘’Although the
comic studio and executive producers have given it two thumbs up, we're
constantly pushing the screenplay forward. I believe the film will go into
pre-production by the end of the year.’’

Boyle also discusses the rumours of Sam Worthington playing the Phantom, the upcoming SyFy miniseries and his dislike of the 1996 version starring Billy Zane. You can read the entire interview here.

The website of Sherlock Symington Productions have also been updated, and you can now find things such as a Phantom Blog, images from the comic, and most interestingly, something that appears to be music intended to feature in the movie! You can find it under "Phantom Audio" in the "Production" section of the site. Belive us, the track is well worth a listen or five, and features both vocals from a female performer and some cool-sounding, jungle-like techno-rock. Visit the website and check it out for yourself at sherlocksymington.com.

Meet Up 2009 - FINAL Info Wrap Up

With the ChronicleChamber.com Meet Up 2009  at the SupaNova Con, Sydney, happening in only a few short weeks I thought it best to recap all the details of the Meet Up in one place. So, for those who came in late, here's what's going on.

The Place:
The Meet Up will be talking place at the SupaNova con in Sydney. The con runs from the 26th to the 28th of June (this month) with day of the Meet Up the 27th. You do not need to be attending the con to take part in the Meet Up. The location for the con, and the meeting place for the Meet Up, will be The Dome at Sydney Olympic Park. The address is 1 Showground Road, Sydney Olympic Park NSW 2127 Australia. (See the map below)

If you've not bought your tickets for SupaNova yet you can do so HERE. Tickets can also be bought at the door for $25AU (per day).

The Time:
The Meet Up will "officially" start at 1pm. However, we will have a "gathering time" starting at 12:30. We ask that at 12:30 people start making their way to the meeting location, which will be outside the main doors of The Dome (the doors through which you enter the con).

Fear not, as leaving the con does not mean you won't be able to get back in. However, it is advisable you let the door person know you intend on returning and they will probably stamp your hand or something similar so when you return they will know you've already paid to get in.

We will wait for you to arrive at the meeting location until 1pm at which time we will be moving on. So make sure you're there by 1pm or we might miss you!

The What:
At 1pm we'll be grabbing some lunch and have a good old chat. The Meet Up is intended to be an informal, relaxed meeting of phans. No big speeches or formalities, just mates talking about the hero they love.

There are several food venues a short distance from The Dome which is where we'll be lunching. (See the map below for details.)

There is no set time for how long the Meet Up will go for, however we will probably not go past 3pm so that those who wish to return to the con can do so with enough time remaining to see everything. However, if anyone attending the Meet Up wishes to hang out longer, be it at the con itself or outside, they are more than welcome to do so. The con  closes at 6pm.

The below map shows the location of The Dome and food places;

For a larger version of the map see HERE.

A Few More Things:
While that covers the basics of the where, when and what of the Meet Up there are a few other items of note;

ID Cards:
As there will be many hundreds of people at SupaNova it would be almost impossible to tell who is and isn't part of the Meet Up. Thus, we have made up special Meet Up ID cards for attendees to wear.

There are two versions of the cards, one black and one purple. They measure in at 11.9x14 cm, the perfect size to see across a crowded con. They also have enough space to write both your real name and your CC forum user name if you wish so forum members can put a face to their forum friends.

Once the card is printed we recommend you stick it to a piece of cardboard or laminate it, something to keep it stiff and to stop from tearing. The card has a hole in it to put rope through if you wish to hang it around your neck or you can pin it to your shirt or get an ID card holder, whatever you'd like.

The ID cards can be downloaded from HERE. Both card types are contained in a single WinRar file. If you do not have WinRar on your computer you can download it for free HERE. Below you can see a preview of both card types.

The Lee Falk Memorial Bengalla Explorers Club Dinner:
The LFMBEC is having one of their regular dinners the same day as our Meet Up. While the LFMBEC and CC are seperate entities and exist outside each other the LFMBEC knows of our Meet Up at the con and has invited anyone attending our Meet Up to also join their dinner that night if they wish. If you think you'd be interested in attending the LFMBEC dinner you can see all of the details HERE.

Well, that's everything up to date. These are the final arrangements for the Meet Up and I don't foresee any changes, however if there are any I'll let you all know as soon as I can.

I hope to see you all there, it's going to be a great day!

Cheers.

New Releases List

With so many new comics coming out all the time and our pusblisher's pages constantly being up-dated it can be hard to keep track of which issues are out at any given time. In an effort to help overcome this and so you can have easy access to information on the issues that are currently out on shelves I've added the New Releases list which you can find under the Navigation menu on the left.

Here all newly released issues will be listed and by clicking on the issue title you'll be taken to that issue's listing on the publishers page where you'll be able to find lots of  information about it. Whenever a new issue comes out from any of the publishers (Frew, Egmont, Moonstone, Newspaper strips) the list will be up-dated with a link to that new issue's listing.

Hope this makes things a little easier for you all.
